DISADVANTAGE OF TRAVELLING

My dear fellow travellers, before this title initiates an argument let me clearly explain what I mean by disadvantage.
Being a travel lover I have always felt that there are no disadvantages of ‘travelling’, but now I feel there is a disadvantage. And yeah, as the title clearly suggests there is just one, which is actually a disadvantage in my perspective. So, the disadvantage I am talking about is ‘NOSTALGIA’. It simply reminds us of our happy past which in reality is painful, as, our ‘todays’ are getting ruined while thinking about ‘yesterdays’.

Now, ironically speaking, It can be advantageous in some cases. Eg: Let us assume You are depressed today. In this case You can rejoice yourself with your happy nostalgic past. This is definitely helpful. But what if those nostalgic happy days makes you feel sorry for today? Unfortunately, the latter is the abundant case and is the reason I call it as a disadvantage.

All these side effects are nothing but results of memories. Especially at bad times, memories haunt like a ghost. When people say they had a happy past it simply means that those good memories are not allowing them to live their life in the present. As atoms are constituent particles of matter, memories are constituent particles of life. At my home whenever I sing a latest song, my dad always argues that the retro songs were better. Now, there is a probability that the latest song may be better but all that is visible to my dad is the memories. What I mean is, whenever one listens to an old song, it is not the music which makes them happy, rather it is the memories attached with the song that makes.

Similar is the case with travel. The memories of the other beautiful places haunts us.

As far as I have seen, out of all the aspects, memories are the most non-volatile aspect of travelling. It is really difficult to come out of the old memories and make new ones. The worst part is when the memories are being made, we’ll be completely unaware of it, and when it is a past we understand the essence of those incidents.

The most painful aspect is leaving a place. The bonding between the heart and the location becomes unbreakable. Suddenly every cell of the body seems to be connected with the ambience.

“ I MISS” – these two words depicts your nostalgic heart and its longing to live in the past. But past is past and living that again is practically impossible. Hence nostalgia is called as a seductive liar. Anyways, a matured heart will understand that this point of life is not permanent and life will start accelerating soon , thus signing off optimistically.

The best escape in mountains : Mukteshwar

  • by

I was bemused whether to go for a college trip or not . Without thinking much I made a decision that travelling is always fun let's not drop the idea . When you travel you actually return to your life . Without enthusiasm , energy and passion you cannot lead your field you need to lighten up . Travelling makes you feel exhilarate . Come let's have a look at what all places I visited .

We reached at New Delhi Railway Station 6 in the morning which was chock -a - block with people . Everyone was waiting for their train on one platform or the other . Finally , our train arrived and we were settled . It was five hours train journey till Kathgodam followed by bus . We reached Kathgodam , which is a town in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand and is located on the foothills of Kumaon Himalayas at an elevation of 554 mts above sea level . Kathgodam is an important station for tourists places like Nainital , Mukteshwar , Ranikhet and much more . We were heading towards Mukteshwar which takes three hours of journey by bus .

Mukteshwar is a pleasing destination in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand . Muktwshwar sits high in the Kumaon Hills at an altitude of 2286 meters , 51 Km from Nainital and 343 Km from Delhi . It is famous for it's scenic view and peaceful atmosphere . As we were heading upwards we could see glistening mountains and stellar view left me gasping .
We reached around 2:00 p.m at Ojaswi Himalayan Resort . The resort location is so perfect as it shows you mesmerising landscape , the evening sun spreading it's dying colours on the snow clad mountain peaks .

After taking few hours rest we were asked to leave for our first visit . I was excited for our visit to Kumaon Vani - Community Radio Station . TERI launched it's first Community Radio station ' Kumaon Vani ' in March 2010 . It was established to use radio as a tool to promote sustainable development among the local farming community . The main objectives of introducing this to help farmers improve their livelihood by providing them pertinent information and knowledge , spread awareness on health , education , water and sanitation . The radio station is attached to TERI'S knowledge centre TRISHA .

It was our educational visit where we saw live broadcasting . It is very helpful for farmers where they can listen radio at work and keep updated . It is fun if you have interest in it and to know the history of radio station .

After that we returned to our resort . There is slightly decrease in the temperature at night . Walking alone on the grass and gazing stars at night is just amazing . You could actually feel yourself . The view from top was marvellous . At that time the urge to wander and explore the world was solidified .

DAY 2
Next morning waking up at 6 in the morning along with sun is something you must experience in your life . Mountains looked more glorious at that time . Reading book along with some good music is the perfect start of the day .

After some time we left for our next destination CHAULI KI JALI which was 8km from our resort . We reached their by trekking within the forests which was so serene and peaceful .
Chauli Ki Jali is a visitor's attraction located behind the cliff of Mukteshwar temple . It is located at a distance of 250 meters from the Mukteshwar temple . ' Chauli ' means rock and ' Jali 'means hole . This place is paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers . One can have a mesmerising view of the Himalayan range and Kumaon Valley from the edge of Chauli ki Jali . There are many amazing facts about this place . There is myth that if you cross the hole of chauli ki jali whatever you wish for you will get it . Besides this , I was stunned to see the names of people written on the rock . Those names were written by people before commiting suicide and reason along with . Many people commited suicide over there which is strange . I got mixed kind of feelings after looking at that .

Mukteshwar temple which is 500 meters away from Chauli ki Jali is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva . The Mukteshwar town owes it's name from this 350 years old Shiva temple . This hill temple is perched at an elevation of 2,312 meters above sea level and offers an enchanting view . There is nothing much happening in the Mukteshwar temple , but the way from Nainital is worth going for . If feels like you are out of the world when you reach there . Sitting there for quite a moment, taking deep breath and thinking deeply about your goals will actually make you feel boisterous and energetic .

By the end of the day , most of were punch drunk . So , we slept .

DAY 3
After having breakfast we left for Nainital . Like most hill stations , Nainital has a bustling mall road , warm cafes and very busy Tibet market . The mall road houses shops selling candles with intricate desings , wooden knick knacks and colourful woollens . Do bring something as keepsakes .

The afternoon brought with it a bright sunny sun . It was warm in the noon . We moved to BHIMTAL which is named after mythological character of Mahabharat . Bhimtal is like any other small district with row of shops , dhabas . Bhimtal Lake is another nice lake in nainital surrounding . Although not much to see , but there is something here which you will not find at any of the lakes - Kayaks . Kayaking here is the simplest thing although I didn't do that .

So , this was the last day of our trip . Best time to visit Mukteshwar is from April to June and October . We didn't visit many places because of shortage of time . We reached Kathgodam station at 3. 30 p .m and journey comes to an end .

Through out this trip I realised company matters a lot with whom you are travelling . Surround yourself with good people , be outrageously energetic and madly alive . I stepped out beaming with little memories that will linger .
